Vermilion River Cannabis Production

Clarity Development Advisory assisted in land use research and the entitlement process to enable the use of this private agricultural parcel for licensed cannabis production in the County of Vermilion River, Alberta. In light of the new legal framework for licensed cannabis production in Canada, municipalities have grappled with the unknown territory of responding to applications that propose the use of lands or facilities for legal production.

At Clarity, we have extensively researched and understand land use considerations that apply when opening cannabis production and distribution facilities, whether it be for standard cultivation, micro-cultivation, nurseries, standard processing, or micro-processing. Federal licensing is a comprehensive process that requires alignment with municipal land use regulations for a business to be successful in opening and operating. We have helped various cannabis producers, including this Alberta business, in understanding and achieving appropriate land use to open a production facility.

As part of the process, Clarity extensively analyzed relevant policies in the local and comparable jurisdictions and acted as an intermediary in negotiations with County administration in determining the best course of action. Clarity ultimately represented the applicant at council public hearings for the required land use bylaw amendment which was successfully approved by Council.
